REFLECTION PAPER
KRISTINE L. CALIXTON
Education in 21st century is about giving students the skills they need to succeed in this new world, and helping them grow the confidence to practice those skills.
With so much information readily available to them, 21st century skills focus more on making sense of that information, sharing and using it in smart ways according to
Maxine Driscoll on her post in Think Strategic. 21st century learning can be defined as student-centered learning. We refer to it this way because 21st century innovations
make student-centered learning possible on an unprecedented scale.

Furthermore, 21st-century teaching means teaching as you have always taught but with today's tools and technology. It means utilizing everything that is important
in today's world so that students will be able to live and prosper in today's economy, as well as having the ability to guide students and to prepare them for the future. Janelle
Cox, 2019 described the characteristics 21st-century teachers to be adaptive, lifelong learners, tech savvy, collaborative, forward thinkers and advocates for the profession.
21st-century teaching means teaching as you have always taught but with today's tools and technology. It means utilizing everything that is important in today's world so
that students will be able to live and prosper in today's economy, as well as having the ability to guide students and to prepare them for the future.

From the usual chalkboards and textbooks to smartphones and computers, teaching and learning has evolved. Since technology is changing at a very rapid pace, it's
not only the learners who are equip with the latest technologies but teachers are expected to be up-to-date on the current educational trends. Working with the team and
sharing ideas and knowledge to others makes the learning more effective. Likewise, an effective teaching is when knowledge and expertise are being shared through modeling.
It is very self-explanatory, "you cannot give what you don't have", however education is a lifelong learning. Both teachers and learners are required to have the right KSAVs
to continuously improve his/herself in order to give what is being demanded by the today's educational system. Even, during this time of pandemic, this crisis that we're
facing should not be the hinder of our learning. Instead, we should take it positively through this blended way of education where we can able to learn despite the distance
with between teachers and learners.

Thinking of the PLLP seems like easy just like the actions plans I made in my class. However, when started to craft and evaluate my level of competency, I already
found it difficult. So, in order to provide the details needed to be written in this plan, I recalled some the discussions and forums we had on the previous sessions. There I was
able to realized that despite a decade in the service, I found that I'm weak on some areas while still developing on the rest of 21st Century Literacies.

There's always a time for everyone to "learn how to learn". This Self-Assessment made me realized the things I need to develop like in the field of arts and creativity
as well as financial literacy since I'm weak on these aspects. On the other hand, somehow I managed to be developing but still needs to enhance my skills in the field of
ecoliteracy, cyberliteracy, media literacy, social/emotional literacy and globalization and multicultural literacy. There's still a lot of things I need to improve. This lifelong
learning plan needs the support of my colleagues in different department so I could become good and strong and sustain that level on the succeeding years. There may be
challenges along the way but as 21st-century teacher I should be adaptive to changes and work well with others because communicating and learning from others is an
important part of the learning and teaching process.

Accepting the challenge of taking the GURO21 course is striking the iron while it's hot. I am confident that this is one way of realizing my desire to become more
equip even after graduating my masteral education. Through this course, i will be able to grow more, personally and professionally by still learning while teaching because a
teacher can never truly teach unless he/she is still learning him/herself. "A lamp can never light another lamp unless it continues to burn its own flame"
Lastly, I am thankful for this opportunity to experience what distance-learning is. Through this course I am I'm very happy and grateful because I am privileged to
learn more KSAVs that will gear me up and be more responsible in teaching to the citizens of the future. As what John Dewey said, "Education is not preparation for life,
education is life itself". As long as we live, we are continuously learning and the journey never ends. And for us to meet the demand of how to improve the quality of education
and be able to develop innovative and self-directed young learners, we teachers should initiate by having the same mind of being innovative, challenging and lifelong learners.
This Personal Lifelong Learning Plan will not remain ideas on a sheet of paper. This will be my guide that will remind me to continuously improve for my personal growth and
professional development. I will carry this plan to the best of my ability and with the guidance of God Almighty.

A simple yet meaningful

discussion with my school head.
“The true essence of being a
teacher especially during this
trying time is being adaptive
and flexible to changes”
