In image we see

objects,
Properties of objects,
interaction between objects and
scene settings

Description can be base on syntax and semantics, syntax is directly available and
semantics need human knowledge and unlimited

vision is about discovering from images what is present in the scene and where it
is
what : visual contents
where : spatial coordinates
who: identification of objects
when: time
why: semantics

in digital image: input is image and output is understanding

digital image is repenstation of 2-d image as a finite set of digital values called
pixels

pixel values represent gray levels, colours, heights etc and its size location.

human sees image as analogue

Digital image processing has 2 tasks

Improvement of pictorial information for human interpretraion

Processing of image for storage, transmission and representation for machine

perception

CV contains IP and Computer Graphics (Generation of Image)

IP is a low level processing and CV is High level processing

humans are much better at 'hard (complex scenario (no of objects and their
properties are also in large amount))' things and computer is on easy things

Applications:
Image Enhacement (X-rays, Satellite Image)
Artistic Effects
Medicine
GIS
PCB
3-D Modeling
OCR
Face, Smile Detection
Object Recognition

Challenges:
View point variation
illumination
occlution
scale
deformation
with in class variations
