ACTIVITY #3
a. Taking two different examples, describe the ways in which access to public space is affected
by social attributes such as age, class, physical ability, and so on. Who is permitted in which
spaces?
b. Does the time of day make a difference, for example?
c. List the attributes for each space and compare them. Are the spaces gendered, perhaps, in
the sense that men dominate one space or women the other?
ACTIVITY #4
a. Is the assumption that women should not go out alone, especially after dark, still a
common one?
b. Have there been recent cases in the town or city where you live where you have seen or
heard police evidence or remarks by the judiciary that supports your answer?
c. If you have a son and daughter, do you expect different behavior from your daughter
compared with her brother?
d. Does your daughter have the same freedoms in public places as her brother?
