1. Reading key ideas
Read the Text Cloud Computing, available in theSena Library databases by following the link
below. To access the library, simply log in with your id number.

Based on the previous reading, write the required information on the chart below.
Cloud computing data centers, because they host powerful ICT equipment,
consume large amounts of energy and are therefore responsible for large amounts
of CO2 emissions.
A cloud computing data center was identified and energy-related attributes were
analyzed. The result was the design of power consumption prediction models for
servers, storage devices, and network equipment. By demonstrating that by
implementing appropriate power optimization policies guided on these models, it
is possible to save about 20% of the energy consumption at these sites.

2. Writing a summary
Now, use the information related to the main idea you already identified and the supporting details
you extracted from the passage, to write a summary of the text Cloud Computing. Use the following
template to guide your writing process. Remember that supporting details can be used to make key
points in your summary.

Encouraging the application of cloud computing technologies, to save money and have environmental
sustainability without sacrificing service agreements (SLA), from a technical point of view, through
calculations that would allow predictions in power consumption and management, is a challenge in the
application of new trends when designing cloud computing data centers, because they house powerful
ICT equipment, consume large amounts of energy and are therefore responsible for large amounts of
CO2 emissions, and energy consumption is a variable to control because: energy costs (fuel) increase
and CO2 emissions related to this consumption are relevant. In 2007, Gartner estimated that the overall
impact of the ICT sector (considering PC, servers, refrigeration, fixed and mobile telephony, local area
network, office telecommunications and printers) is 2% of global CO2 emissions.
This article technically demonstrates how the use of energy-use prediction models can save up to
20%of the energy consumed by a cloud computing data center, which was developed as follows:
1. A study was conducted for the proper management of the energy consumed by servers, storage
devices and network equipment, in two ways; online and offline.
2. It describes through UML diagrams the data centers with their components (servers, storage
devices, and network equipment) and creates Tics resource modeling, network topology
modeling, server modeling, storage modeling, and service modeling, for references from an
overview of data center operation, building mathematical models that achieve power reduction.
3. Power consumption prediction models are created for the most relevant ICT resources in data
centers, such as servers (inactive and dynamic power consumption), storage devices (power
consumption at rest or without activity, dependent on activity and idle power consumption), and
network equipment (power consumption depends on internal switching state and buffer
utilization , i.e. power depends on the total packet switching performance), as power optimization
algorithms were designed by providing them with detailed information about the power
consumption of these devices in the different workload deployment configurations.
4. An environment is designed and a test bench is configured to evaluate the model, with hardware
and software used in cloud computing data centers, and workloads such as stable tasks, pointy
tasks, repetitive tasks with normal use, and the model under study are generated.
5. Actual power optimization results were achieved by applying the prediction models to the
devices and section workload generation under conditions identical to the test bench once
without the power sensing add-on and the second time with the add-on running, resulting in it
being possible to save energy by almost 20% when only a single site is taken into account.
