Atlanta History Center Returns In-person Martin Luther King, Jr.

Day Celebration

All programming will be geared towards families, with in-person activities including
educational simulations, film talks, and toddler Storytime. Virtual offerings will include author
talks and printable children’s activities.

Atlanta, Georgia (October 30, 2021) – On Sunday, January 16 and Monday, January 17, 2022,
from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m., the Atlanta History Center will celebrate the legacy of Martin Luther King,
Jr. in his hometown of Atlanta through a variety of free in-person and virtual experiences. After
a year of all-virtual celebration, the Atlanta History Center is thrilled to welcome guests again to
an in-person celebration with virtual components.

Covid-19 policies will be in place for the in-person events. Capacity will be limited to 650
people each day and reservations, or same day passes, are required, but admission is free. A
limited number of same day passes will be available at the door, guests will not be able to enter
without a same day pass or reservation.

Virtual offerings will give guests the opportunity to engage with Martin Luther King, Jr.’s life
and legacy from home. A virtual author talk will be scheduled, and recordings of author talks
will be made available online, along with digital content and stories. Children’s programming
will include printable activities and virtual toddler Storytime.

In-person offerings will include educational simulations, activities, author talks, and film
screenings. On the hour, opportunities to participate in Augmented Freedom Rides and United
States Colored Troops experiences will be offered. Ongoing family activities will include farm
crafting demonstrations, a collections items table, children’s coloring packet, and a juice and soft
drink bar with snacks for kids. The author talks and showings of the I Have a Dream Film will
be timed with limited capacity.

For several years the Atlanta History Center’s Martin Luther King, Jr. Day’s programming has
brought thousands of people together for celebration and exploration. Through these hybrid
offerings, the Atlanta History Center hopes to continue this tradition in a safe and engaging
manner to people in Atlanta and beyond.
