will operate
regardless of the
position of
theignition key or
headlamp switch.

Light Bulbs
Lightning is
provided by
various sizes and
types of light
bulbs.
When an electric
current flows
through a fine
wire orfilament in
the bulb, the
filament gets hot
and emits
visiblelight. The
bulb may fit into
a socket which
forms part of a
lamp. The
bulb may fit into
a socket

of a lamp.Some
bulbs have two
filaments. This
allows a single
bulbto provide
light in two
circuits for
different
purposes. The
variousbulbs and
lighting circuits
usually receive
power from the
fusepanel,
ignition switch, or
headlamp switch.

important lamps
for the driver.
When switchon,
they provide light
ahead of the
vehicle. The
tungstenfilament
turns white-hot
when connected
to the battery
andgives out
light. The light is
reflected forward
by the
curvedreflector.
Then the light
passes through
the lens which
arrangesit in a
pattern to light
the
road ahead. The
sealed
beamheadlamp is
replaced as a
unit.Many
vehicles have
halogen
headlamps
.
These emit
awhiter and
brighter light
than other
sealed-beam
lights.
Thehalogen headl
amp has a smalle
r
inner bulb filled
with halogengas
which protects
the tungsten
filament. The
outer case
isairtight or
hermetically
sealed. The
halogen
headlamp
isreplaced as a
unit. The most wi
dely
used headlamps
are made in four
sizes,two round
and two
rectangular The

5.75 (146mm)
and 7 inches (178
mm). The
rectangular sizes
are 6.5 by
4inches (165 by
100 mm) and 7.9

one high-beam
filament. Type 2
has

beam and other
for low beam.
