Carcinoid is a slow-growing type of neuroendocrine tumor originating in the cells

of the neuroendocrine system. It is usually asymptomatic, however, in some cases,


metastasis may occur producing symptoms. Carcinoids secrete excessive levels of
serotonin causing flushing, diarrhea, wheezing, abdominal cramping, and peripheral
edema.
