Volunteering Reflection

Volunteering is a voluntary act of an individual or group freely giving time and labor for
community service. On the other hand, according to dictionary, volunteering is doing work
without being forced or paid. In the video that I had watched in my NSTP class, my thoughts
about the subject, volunteering, became wide and clear. Rob Simmons is the speaker in the video
we watched who talked about the power of volunteerism, and I command the beauty of his
lecture because in this society, for me, volunteerism doesn’t get much attention and only few
people talked about this. It’s a great opportunity that I was able to watch the talk of Mr. Simmons
about volunteerism because there’s a lot of misconceptions I have about this topic and little did I
know that there’s a lot more and deeper lesson and experience you can attain in engaging to
volunteerism.

The video that we watched was very inspiring and informative. I can absolutely say that
I’ve learned so much from it. It gave me knowledge and information about the positive and
beneficial effects of volunteerism not just to an individual but also with other people. According
to the speaker, if many people will appreciate the concept of volunteerism and be engaged to it,
probably many lives will be change and this positive change will extend up to the rest of the
community. If there are numerous volunteer, imagine how many deprived and needy people will
be given help.

“The whole power of volunteering isn’t just helping others and building a strong
community, but actually helps you bring out your best self.” This statement given by Rob
Simmons impacted me so much. Being a volunteer for almost four years in our church brought a
lot of change in my life and I totally agree to what was Mr. Simmons has said. Volunteering truly
brings out the best of me and in doing this, I encounter myself doing things I never thought I can
actually do. Also, along the way I have met amazing and wonderful people who had made such
influence on my life — people who mentor and pushes me to become better version of myself.
This video made me reflect on my experience as a volunteer and I hope I’ll be able to engage
more in volunteering because indeed, there’s a power in volunteerism.
