Habitual tardiness

Habitual tardiness is a sign of devaluation and contempt for instructors and other
students who have arrived to class punctually. It is a rude and a disruptive form of
behavior, especially when it is accompanied by doors opening, and shutting, loud
noises and students distractingly passing in front of the instructor to get to their seats.
As a teacher, in consideration with student-centered discipline, I will address this issue
by setting clear expectations to my students wherein prompt attendance is expected of
them. Secondly, I will reward early arrivals by giving 5 extra credits on their quizzes
because this method will reinforce students to come early. I will make a rule that
students who will have three consecutive tardiness will be subjected to the advisory
office for advises. I will give appreciation and appraisal to students who arrived on time
because what gets praised and rewarded will get repeated.
Bullying
As an educator, I have a responsibility to create a safe and healthy environment in my
classroom- one that protect every student from bullying. So, I need to talk about bullying
to my students to instill empathy and emotional intelligence. Also, for them to know the
consequences of bullying and how people are affected by bullying. I will also create
bullying policies with additional guidelines in my classroom that focus on respect and
kindness. In addition, I will empower my students by encouraging them to stand up
against bullying behavior or to report it to me or another trusted adult. I will also try to
maintain open-communication with my students to know if they are doing well or
struggling and for them not to be embarrassed to come forward. Furthermore, I will
prevent cliques in my classroom. For example, in group activities I will be the one to
group my students because if I will to assign them to group their own selves, this opens
the door to bullying opportunities. It also allows cliques to strengthen and creates an
opportunity for kids to ostracize other students. When I will be the one to select group, I
am ensuring that my students learn to work with those outside their circle of friends.
Pre-selected groups also give students the opportunity to learn how to work with
different types of people. Thus, this would bring sense of connection in to my students
wherein everyone feels like they belong and the students learn to support one another.
