Create Bootable USB For IRM Dell Hardware

Scope:
This guide is intended for techs to create bootable USB/image for new Dell standard hardware
using DIA (Dell ImageAssist).

Requirements:
1. USB drive: 64GB recommended, 32GB works as well
2. Access to DIA tool: DIA tool
3. Access to WIM file: Dell Wim file
4. Access to Dell drivers folder: Dell Driver_Packs
5. ***You will need a workstation with GPT partition table to run DIA tool
How to check a disk uses GPT or MBR with Diskpart command
Run diskpart → list disk

Asterisk indicated the type of


partition table

Download DIA tool, Wim file, and Dell Driver Packs from the share before proceeding
further. Be sure to download driver packs one zip file at a time
Step 1:
Extract the DIA tool and run the
ImageAssist.exe
Accept the DIA Terms and
Conditions and click Next

Step 2:
Accept all default and click Next
Step 3:
Click the settings/gear and select
Additional Tools.
Hit Ok on the pops up instructional
message about the usage of the
tool

Step 4:
Insert USB drive, select Create
USB Drive or ISO File

Step 5:
Confirm (1) Bootable USB is
selected
DIA tool will (2) auto detect the
USB drive.
Confirm it is the correct USB drive.
Select Recan button (3) if DIA
doesn’t auto detect the USB drive.
Select Create USB (4) button to
start creating bootable USB

This takes about 5 minutes

Step 6:
Close the DIA tool when it
completed

Leave the USB drive inserted


Step 7:
Open the File Explorer and you will
find that the USB drive created into
two partitions
IA_DYNAMIC contains WinPE
IA_DYNAMIC_DATA is where the
wim file and drivers go

Step 8:
Two folders created under the
IA_DYNAMIC_DATA partition by
DIA
Dell_Driver_Packs_local and
Dell_Images

Step 9:
Do Not Unzip the driver zip files

Copy the driver zip files as it to


the Dell_Driver_Packs_Local
folder

Copy the Two Wim files:


1. DELL_Win10_2004_DT.wim
2. DELL_Win10_2004_LT.wim to
the Dell_Images folder
