BEER IN MIND

Case Background

Overlooking the lush-green IIM-B Campus, Blue Yacht (BY) has been set up with carefully visualised
decor and thoughtful seating arrangements spread over a large open-terrace space, to make the most
of Bangalore's splendid weather. Since it’s on the rooftop, ambience will automatically be romantic-
meets-chilled-out. Karaoke, live bands and DJ perform at the BY every weekend. They also have a
large indoor space for corporate-get-togethers, parties and workshops.

If there’s one thing Bangaloreans love more than their filter coffee, it’s a good pint of craft beer. BY is an
addition to numerous breweries that Bangalore prides in. BY, a beer deck & dining, is dedicated to all
things Beatles (the band, yes) and best known for its artisan craft beer and cocktails. The top five brews
always available on the tap are The Imperial Russian Stout, an English Style Extra Special Bitter, a regular
wheat beer, a Dunkelweizen, and a Kolsch. The Kolsch is a mix between a lager and an ale, and it is
definitely the best of both worlds. It also offers seasonal brews- a wheat beer with fruity notes courtesy
fruits such as sapota and a bit of kick courtesy spices.

To top the amazing freshly brewed beer, is authentic continental food with comfort Indian cuisines at
BY. Their super talented chefs have put together a menu full of the experimental and the homely. The
BY is a part of the SS Hospitality Group, a ten-year old company that is dedicated to quality hospitality
service and care. BY also delivers through Zomato and is listed on various table-booking platforms like
dineout and magicpin.

However, due to the ongoing pandemic, BY is temporarily closed. Additionally, BY is concerned that
even after the lockdown eases, their former and potential customers will be very apprehensive of eating
at restaurants due to hygiene reasons and the possible lack of social distancing. BY is concerned that it
has already lost a significant amount of revenue due to being closed temporarily. Furthermore, in the
case that it does not gain the trust of customers, it mightn’t be able to recover the losses and regain
profitability. In the worst come worst situation, this could cause bankruptcy.

Create a strategy for BY to increase their restaurant and delivery sales/revenue

Your submission will be evaluated on:


1. Structure of your approach
2. Comprehensiveness of your solutions
3. Feasibility
4. Impactfulness

Guidelines

1. The solution should be shared in the form of a 3-slide deck (Excluding front slide and thank-you
slide; the 3 permitted ones are the content slides used for presentation)

2. Give your team a kickass fancy name. No where in the deck should the name of team members or
your section be mentioned. This is to ensure anonymity and avoid inherent bias.
 Teams failing at this will be disqualified from the competition

3. Submission deadline: 10am, Friday, 28th August 2020


 File format: PDF
 Naming convention: <Team Name>_WOS2020
 Upload your file in this shared folder
 No changes in the deck can be made after submission
 Failure to follow these guidelines will lead to disqualification

4. Presentation: All 7 sections will be required to present their solutions to the judges, 3:30pm
onwards on Friday, 28th August
 Time Limit: Presentations should be wrapped stritcly under 6 minutes
 QnA: 4 minutes of QnA by the judges
 Order of presentation: Randomly decided on the spot, so be prepared

5. The final decision made by the judges is binding and cannot be contested

For “Beer in Mind”, the event-POCs will be directly in touch with the section POCs. All the queries have to
be routed through the section POCs.
