Activity 1: Module 4 (Midterm)

1. Why is ergonomics important in the workplace?

Employees are subjected to physical strain, tension, and overexertion when they are forced to
execute tasks and use equipment that is not designed with ergonomic principles in mind. Up to 50%
of all significant musculoskeletal injuries might be averted each year if a worker's responsibilities are
altered to include ergonomic concepts that reduce physical stress in the workplace. This would
dramatically improve employee health. Preventative ergonomic concepts have a positive impact on
employee well-being as well as company productivity. Work-related musculoskeletal injuries account
for more than one-third of all workday missed instances, according to the US Department of Labor.

2.How it will benefit both the employees and the company?

Both companies and workers benefit from ergonomics programs, as evidenced by decreased absence
and illness rates, which leads to more productive uptime and lower stress levels. When properly
implemented, an ergonomic solution may increase productivity by 10% to 15%. Employees who work
in an ergonomic environment are healthier and less in distress. By creating a healthy work
environment that supports excellent posture, less exertion, and fewer motions, the workplace
becomes more productive. Poor ergonomics result in frustrated and weary employees who are
unable to perform at their best. Employees may not do their work or task as they have been
instructed if the job or task is physically too demanding for them. This will harm the company's and its
products' reputations.
