A merchant´s diary

Urbano Ruíz was a little errant merchant in

the lasts of the XII century in the
territory that now we know as Spain.
Brown haired and dark-skinned because of
long journeys below the sun, he was serious
when it was talking about work, he
inherited the family business. He didn´t
have wife or children because for him, his
work was all. Here it is an everyday routine
of his life.

´´Today it is my last day here, in the

kingdom of Aragon. Tomorrow, when the
sun starts to shine, I will take my things
and go the the kingdom of Castilla. This
morning I woke up as soon as the first sun
ray shone. The first thing I did, was to
take a look to my profits and my outlays.
For my happiness, this time I earned more
than I spent, so maybe I have to come
back. When I finished doing this, I went to
the market, where I bought some vegetables
of this area at a very nice price. That will
give me more profit when I reach the
kingdom of Castilla. When I finished buying,
I came back to my stall to start the
working day. Today it was more or less as
everyday, but with the difference that a
woman bought a lot of carrots, not a very
normal thing. When the last sun ray shone,
I closed the stall and tidied up the
products. The profit of today was normal. I
got out of wheat so I have to buy more
when I reach the kingdom of Castilla. Then,
I got a quick dinner. No much, only a piece
of bread, and I went to sleep early due to I
have to leave very early or I won’t be able
to get to the next city before the sun get
out.´´
