Montgomery Baptists will Proclaim the “Gospel Above All” by:

Meeting Human Need While Planting Gospel Seed; Revitalizing, Planting & Replanting Churches; Calling Out the Called

Please give us a summary of your life and family, as

well as your ministry with the MBA.
I was born and raised in Montgomery. God called me
into the ministry when I was 18 years old at Ridgecrest
Baptist Church under Dr. Mickey Castleberry. I went to
college at Samford University and studied for the min-
istry at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. I
met my wife, Crysta, while in college and we were mar-
ried while in seminary. Crysta and I have three boys,
Nathan, Timothy, and Peter. I first pastored a church in
Louisiana and after 28 years serving in other churches,
Michael Trull
Thorington Road returned to Montgomery and have been pastoring at
Pastor/MBA Thorington Road Baptist Church for four and half
Moderator
years. At Thorington Road, our focus is on making dis-
ciples. We believe that is the first and foremost command that God gives
us, not just making converts in Jesus Christ. Our church leaders estab-
lished a mission statement around three prongs, Grow, Go, and Give. This
is done through worship, Bible studies, and several discipleship groups.
We try to stay involved in the community through the middle and elemen-
tary schools within our community as well as other ministries in the city
like Women’s First Choice and the River Region Chaplaincy with the
sheriff’s office as well as many other different ministries.

Tell us how you have adjusted your ministry during these days of the
pandemic.
Like everybody else, we stopped attending onsite for five months and
hosted online services. As the pandemic climate changed, in June, we in-
vited our members to return on Wednesday nights for very small groups.
In August, we returned to gathering in person on Sunday mornings and
offered an overflow room for those not comfortable being in large groups.
It is the church’s desire to keep an online presence. Sunday school classes
began meeting online in March and have continued faithfully. We have
also being able to continue the work of our ministries, for example, the
Night to Shine event was modified where participants could participate in
a drive thru at the church and encouragers stood by waving and cheering,
handing out goody bags. The rest of the experience was virtual where they
could plug into a video online. To ensure safety, the same plan will con-
tinue for this year.

What are some “God things” that has happened over the last year in
your ministry?
Our folks have been faithful and very generous through the year allowing
us to retire over half of our church debt and take care of needs around the
facility and on the grounds. Their love for God and the church has made
ministry easier. Aside from the finances, we continue to be blessed to do
the Night to Shine. Seeing folks continuing to be involved and reaching
out in the community. One lady that joined over the last month reflected
on how much her children love going to church and she has seen them
grow spiritually.
How can the MBA churches best pray for you and the work?
Pray for me personally to be faithful, for the church to continue in their
faithfulness. We all want to hear “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
To be what Christ has called us to be, we are to love the way He loves,
forgive the way He forgives, and share the gospel the way He shared. Pray
for us as we begin working on a vision for the future. God is moving to
awaken the Church to be a discipleship movement beyond the walls of the
church. Pray that the Church will not return to contentment.

What are the three most significant “ASK’s” you have for the MBA
churches?
Be faithful. Be intentional with God has called us to do. And, be wise with
what God has given us to steward.
