Dear Professor,

During Master of Technology I have gone through one course Advance Manufacturing Process, in that
course I have studied about the benefits of one of the best trending manufacturing process (Additive
manufacturing) and its fracture analysis and after completing my coursework I found myself interested in
Estimation of fracture toughness and its modelling and that’s the reason I have chosen Dr. Mayuri Baruah
& Dr. Rajneesh Kumar , my M.Tech thesis supervisor and start working in Estimation of Fracture toughness
and impact toughness modelling using finite element method.
I feel completely satisfied with my decision to choose an engineering as my career option as it has revealed
the most pragmatic and down-to-earth approach to tackling human problems to me.
I completed M.Tech under the esteemed supervision of Dr. Mayuri Baruah Assistant Professor National
Institute of Technology Jamshedpur (NIT Jamshedpur) & Dr. Rajneesh Kumar principal scientist at Council of
Scientific & Industrial Research-National Metallurgical Laboratory Jamshedpur (CSIR-NML).
My M.Tech project works as follows:
• Creation of weld heat affected zone (CGHAZ and ICHAZ) in Glleble@3800 Thermo mechanical physical
simulator.
• Welding Simulation by writing the code (DFLUX Subroutine) in ABAQUS software.
• Estimation of Fracture Toughness of SE[NT] single edge notch tension specimen under different crack
length condition using XFEM (extended finite element method).
• Numerical modelling and simulation of Charpy Impact test of base material under similar geometric
and physical condition Using finite Element Package (ABAQUS Software).

After working in this project my enthusiasm coupled with scope for innovations and opportunities
available in the field of Fracture Mechanics and its Modelling & Simulation has motivated me to opt for
higher studies and contribute to the field through meaningful research

The main purpose of PhD is to do intense research in the Fracture analysis of Additive Manufactured
component for which CMERI Durgapur is the most excellent place. If I get an option to do research in this
field under the esteemed supervision of senior scientist of CSIR then It would be the great privileged for
me.
The aim of my life is to do excellent research in the field of trending, quite challenging but efficient
technique i.e. fatigue fracture analysis of additive manufactured component and do some help for the
society.
Thank you for giving your precious time in going through this document. I look forward to hear from you
soon.

Thanks,
RAHUL SRIVASTAVA
