Canadian English owes its very existence to important historical events, especially:
The Treaty of Paris of 1763, which ended the Seven Years’ War
The American Revolution
The Industrial Revolution in Britain in the 19th century.
English was first spoken in Canada in the 17th century, in seasonal fishing
communities the island of Newfoundland. Extensive English-speaking settlement
of the rest of eastern Canada was made possible by British victory in the
Seven Years’ War, after which France ceded its remaining Canadian territory
to Britain in the Treaty of Paris (1763).
