We are told to wash our hands thoroughly with running water and soap for at least twenty
seconds in this COVID 19 season to reduce the spread of germs. This advice should be taken
serious because it is a good practice. However, there is another cleansing of the whole body not
to reduce the spread of germ called sin but to remove completely its control on our lives. Let us
read I John 1:7, “But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one
another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.” Do not make the
mistake of many. They say to themselves, “I will try and stop the bad things I am doing, change
my ways, become good then come to Christ.” This plan has failed because Jeremiah 13:23 says
“Can the Ethiopian change his skin or the leopard its spots? Neither can you do good who are
accustomed to doing evil.” The power to change our lives is not in this world but it is in heaven
and all of us have permission to receive that power and be cleanse from all forms and manner of
sin.
How then can the sin of fornication, adultery, stealing, lying, abortion, etc be cleansed? Like
King David of old Israel we can say with all our heart “Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity,
And in sin my mother conceived me. 6 Behold, You desire truth in the inward parts, And in the
hidden part You will make me to know wisdom. 7 Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean;
Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. 8 Make me hear joy and gladness, That the bones You
have broken may rejoice. 9 Hide Your face from my sins, And blot out all my iniquities (sin).
This can be done through confession of our sins. Confession is not telling God what He does not
know but God’s process of bringing to Himself for cleansing. It is speaking to God about the
sin(s), genuine sorry for the sin, godly sorrow (2 Corinthians 7:11). It could be sin of omission,
which is falling to do what you have the capacity to do but refuses to do it (James 4:17), or sin of
commission which is when you participate in acting against the will of God (1 John 3:4).
Whatever the kind or form of sin the bible says in 1 John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, He is
faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” The blood of
Christ cleanses us if we repent. Christ came down from heaven so that you sins can be forgiven.
He came down from heaven so that when your sins are forgiven you can go up to heaven one day
with him. He came down from heaven to wear the crown of thorn so that when your sins are
cleanse you can wear the crown of gold. Heaven emptied itself in Christ emptied so that you can
filled of all heaven’s glory. Like the hymn writer has said “There is a fountain filled with blood,
Drawn from Immanuel’s veins; And sinners, plunged beneath that flood, Lose all their guilty
stains: Lose all their guilty stains, Lose all their guilty stains; And sinners plunged beneath the
flood loss all the guilty stains. You can sing this song from SDAH 336.
When your sins are washed in the precious blood of the Lamb through confession, repentance
and baptism (if you are not baptized this is you time), you are set free from the bondage and
condemnation of sin (Romans 8:1, 2). You are prepared for heaven where we shall stay without
end.
PRAYER POINT
1. Help us Lord to follow healthy practices like washing of hands and keeping our
environment clean.
2. Help me today to overcome every known sin through confessing and repenting of them.
3. Help us to build each other so that sin will not rule over us.
