ABSTRACT

Nurses have a considerable responsibilities and required to work professionally in


providing services to patient. The nurse profession have a risk factor for complaints of work
fatigue and mental workload. The purpose of this study was to analyze the correlation between
mental workload with complaints of work fatigue on nurses at the Balung Regional Hospital,
Jember Regency.
This study was an observational study with a quantitative approach and a cross-sectional
design. The population of this study was 126 nurses. Determination of the sample using simple
random sampling and reach 80 respondents. The variables in this study were nurses'
characteristics (age, gender, and years of service), mental workload, complaint of work fatigue.
Data is collected by distributing questionnaires. Data is presented in the form of frequency
distribution tables and cross-tabulation. Data were analysized using the Chi-square test.
The results of the study prove that the characteristics factors of the respondents consisting
of gender (sig. 0.804) and years of service (sig. 0.221) didn’t have correlation with complaints of
work fatigue. Age (sig.0.004) had a correlation with complaints of work fatigue. Mental
workload didn’t have correlation with complaints of work fatigue (sig.0.691).
Based on the results of the study was the mental workload didn’t have correlation with
complaints of work fatigue on nurses at the Balung Regional Hospital, Jember Regency.
Recommendation that can be given is to provide management of work fatigue to nurses and
educational and training related to occupational health and safety especially mental workload and
complaints of work fatigue.
