ABSTRACT

Nurses are medical staff who the most interact and serve the patients. As time goes
by, the work demands of a nurse are increasing. It causes an increase of nurses workload both
physically and mentally. If the workload of nurses increases, it can lead to health problems
for nurses, namely fatigue. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to analyze the
relationship between mental workload with work fatigue complaints on nurses at the Balung
Regional Hospital, Jember.
This study is observational study analysis with cross sectional metodh approach. The
total population of this study was 126 nurses, the determination of the sample size used
probability sampling method with simple random sampling method with 80 respondents.
Researched variable are nurse characteristic (age, gender and length of work), mental
workload and work fatigue complaints. Data collection was done by share the questionnaires
to respondents. Data from study result was served with frequency distribution table and cross
tabulation, then analyzed using chi-square test.
From the result of the study it was found that the characteristic based on age is pvalue
0,804, work length is 0,221 did not have a significant relationship. The result of statistical test
of two main variables showed that there was no significant relationship between mental
workload and complaints of work fatigue with pvalue 0,691. It can be concluded that there is
no significant relationship between mental workload and complaints of work fatigue on
nurses at the Balung Regional Hospital, Jember. The advice of this study is to provide work
fatigue management to nurses and provide education and training related to K3, especially
mental workload and work fatigue
