REFLECTIVE JOURNAL

After listening carefully and attentively, I have a new and deeper understanding about the
violence against women and children and all the related laws about child protection. I have learned all
about the forms of abuses and violence than can be committed against women and children. But what
popped out in my mind is why there are women or victims who never leave their perpetrators? Well, is
just kept it myself and made a self-search in the interne. I have also learned that the government
decided to step up and make laws to demote spousal and children abuse, which allowed more women
to have enough courage to speak up about the abuse they may have faced.
On the one hand, there are huge numbers of men where the question of being violent towards
the women and children in their lives – physically, emotionally or psychologically – is never and nowhere
on their cultural radar. They play active, strong and hands-on parenting roles; display respectful
attitudes towards women in workplaces; experience loving personal relationships; enjoy the regard of
their peers; and show leadership on questions of the representation of women in senior echelons of
business, government and across the community. Put simply, when men value women positively,
respect them and love them - they do not hurt them. This particular social and cultural dynamic is why
societies that have higher levels of gender equality experience reduced rates of sexual and family
violence.
Professionally speaking, being a licensed criminologist, I think there is a need to conduct a study
on the level of awareness of the teachers on the different laws defining and penalizing violence against
women and children. Such study will help the speakers or lecturer before conducting seminars or
trainings. On the other side, being a licensed professional teacher, the laws protecting the children or
students should have a counterpart law protecting us teachers and giving us assurance on the equal
social conduct.
