Nefertiti, whose name means "a beautiful woman has come,".

Nefertiti, was one of

ancient Egypt's most mysterious and powerful women, reigned with Pharaoh Akhenaten from
1353 to 1336 B.C. After her husband's death, she may have ruled the New Kingdom entirely.
Akhenaten reorganized Egypt's religious and political structures around the worship of the sun
god Aten throughout her reign, which was a time of immense cultural upheaval. Nefertiti's
painted sandstone bust, which was found in 1913 and became a global icon of feminine beauty
and power. In addition to her political role, she represented all of Egypt's women before the
gods. Through her proximity to a divine king, she would become divine herself. Nefertiti is also
shown in a variety of roles, including driving chariots, attending ceremonial acts with Akhenaten,
and smiting enemies.
Despite the myth surrounding Nefertiti's image, is known about the "beautiful one,". In
fact, by the 12th year of her husband Akhenaten's reign, when she was around 30 years old,
Nefertiti had virtually vanished from history. Her cultural significance is further enhanced by her
mystique as an ancient muse. She would not be suited for the artistic and political projection
that has shaped her posthumous reception if she didn't have it.
The core of the bust consists of limestone, over which a layer of stucco of varying
thickness was applied for the final modelling. The bust was used as a model for artists
producing portraits of the queen at the Tuthmosis workshop. Nefertiti is shown as a subtly
beautiful woman. Her beauty is unaffected by the folds under her eyes and chin, as well as the
slightly sunken cheeks. The bust is made of limestone with a modeled gypsum surface. The
pupil is attached with black colored wax and the eye is inlaid with crystal. The inlay for the
second eye was never completed.
The bust of Nefertiti is renowned for her beauty when you think about it that's quite
remarkable for a work from ancient Egypt this is because art from this period tend to focus on
an idealized image versus the naturalistic one but during the period of religious upheaval called
the Amana period after the city artistic trends favored a more real-life appearance this gives us
an almost unprecedented look into royal life in ancient Egypt.
To understand ancient Egyptian art, it must be viewed through the viewpoint of the
ancient Egyptians. Most Egyptian imagery has been compared unfavorably to later, and much
more 'naturalistic,' Greek or Renaissance art because of its fairly static, typically formal,
strangely abstract, and often blocky nature. Egyptian art, on the other hand, had a very different
purpose than those of later cultures.

Nefertiti is the symbol of beauty and feminine power. Her name means 'a beautiful woman has
come.
