Chapter 1: Supported JT and CATIA V5 versions

JT files and CATIA V5 files support different versions for reading and writing data. Use the following
table to verify the supported read | write versions for this release.

JT CATPart/CATProduct CGR
Read V6.4 to V10.2 R8 to V5-6R2018 R8 to V5-6R2018
Write V6.4 to V10.2 R14 or R19 R14

Chapter 4: Known issues and workarounds

• The translator can read CGR files ranging from R10 to R22. However, the normals for R10 to
R13 CGR files cannot be processed and the resultant JT parts may not shade properly.

• We recommend that you run the translator from a writable directory and that the output directory
specified is also a writable directory.

• The translator updates all parts and ignores the values set for updateChangePartsOnly.

• Spaces between the pound sign (#) and commented text are not supported in the configuration
file. The software supports the following commented text example.#Translate_Bodies=true.

• If the input JT file, translated to CATIA V5, has XT instead of JTBrep, you will realize significant
improvements in quality and performance of the translation.

• For CATIA V5 to JT translations, a few instances have been reported that not all faces are
trimming correctly. If this happens, please notify GTAC and use JTBrep as a work around.

• In order to translate mass properties accurately to JT, compute the mass properties in CATIA
V5 prior to saving the part.
To determine if mass properties were computed correctly, in your CATIA V5 application select
Properties→Mass. If you see the following message:The Part is modified by the Calculation of
Mass Properties, the mass properties were not computed. Select Okay to compute the mass
properties and then translate the part again.

Note
Also, if the material assignment in CATIA V5 changes, consider computing mass
properties by either selecting Properties→Mass in CATIA V5, or by another
acceptable method prior to saving the CATIA V5 part.

• Assembly level representations are not translated. For example, a CGR representation added to
the assembly through the Manage Representations interface is not translated. However, if this
CGR were added to the assembly as a Component through the Insert Existing Component,
the CGR would be translated correctly.

• Internationalized file names are not allowed in CATIA V5. Hence JT files with internationalized
filenames cannot be converted to CATIA V5 User is expected to rename the JT files and any
references to these JT files to ASCII appropriately before issuing a JT to CATIA V5 translation.

• Analytic definitions of tessellated edges are not translated from JT to CGR.

• Enhancements to support geometry visibility in Captures requires Teamcenter Visualization 10.1

or later. For users running earlier versions of Teamcenter Visualization, for example, 9.1.2, this

enhancement can be disabled by setting the environment variable CAPTURE_GEOMETRY_VISIBILITY

= false prior to the translation.

• A number of legacy JT readers including NX 9.0, require length units in a v9.5 JT file to be set as
Millimeters instead of ISO compliant millimeters. To produce JT files that have Millimeters as
the unit , set the environment variable USE_ISO_UNIT_NAMING =0 prior to running the translation.

• There is a known limitation in TC Visualization in that it will not display properties/attributes whose
key is longer than 60 characters. Set the environment variable TRIM_PROP_KEY=1 to truncate these
long keys such that the property will display in TC Visualization.
