Thesis Statement Practice

DBQ (Document-Based Question)

Directions: Using the information provided in the slideshow, these examples of absolutism,
and/or these non-examples of absolutism, write a historical introduction paragraph and a
thesis statement to practice for the upcoming DBQ.

Prompt: Is it better to be ruled by an absolute monarch or to be ruled by the collective good


(public)?

Step One: Thesis Statement. Write a 1-2 sentence thesis that includes the three requirements
listed below.

*When you are finished writing your thesis statement, highlight the time period in yellow,
highlight the argument in blue, and highlight the three pieces of evidence in green. If you
are struggling to identify one of those parts within your thesis statement, then you probably
need to edit it.

Step Two: Historical Introduction. Write 3-5 sentences of background information to set the
stage.
