Learnings of OB Guest Session

Mr Sudhansu Padhy who is DGM-T&D, with Hero Motocorp. was the guest for the session he
explained insights on Organisational Citizenship Behaviour

Firstly organizational behivour is one of the important aspect in each and every company because all
the business firms and institutions are running from human resource management . Sir explained
about Organisational Citizenship Behaviour using from basics to higher aspects using different
examples . He used one definition Of Dennis organ to explain about OCB "an individual behavior
which is not rewarded by a formal reward system… but that, when combined with the same
behavior in a group, results in effectiveness "

Example for this : There is a group assignment we need to form a 6 members group and which is
given by course faculty and we need to make an report on " movie review " on any inspirational
movie at the end of the course we need to make presentation we all worked in a team and made
presentation well . But course faculty suggested me that I need to improve communication skills
because of that I lost 4 marks individually but as s team we recieved good marks this is the best
example which explains about the OCB

After this sir explained about various types of organizational citizenship behavior which can
normally seen

1. Altruism : In this scenario it explains that an employee helps or he/ she assists another employee
without expecting anything in return . An simple example for this is NGO's they are working for the
society and they are helping for the well being of the society but they are not expecting anything in
return

2. Courtesy : sir explained about this scenario using an example firstly he said Courtesy is polite and
considerate behavior towards other people . in this case, other employees let me take can example
to explain this scenario . An employee name called Ram who is a junior manager at HCL is assigned
with an project and his manager is Sham . Sham ask about the personal issues about him how is
feeling in his current project and how his Holidays was and some personal issues also . In this
scenario Sham is asking about his personal issues because that should not effect his performance .

Sportsmanship : This is also a one of the important type of OCB which tells that employee’s ability to
be a good loser. It’s about being able to deal with situations that don’t go as planned .

Example for this scenario Nayan who is working as a business analyst he is assigned with one project
he is having Yash as his team member and the deadline is 20th september 2021 and yash met with
an accident on 17th September and his hand was fractured and he will not be able to work with
Sham in this project and Sham alone works for this project and he submits within the deadline. In
this Yash's accident was not scheduled and sham helped him by working on his part of work . This is
sports men ship

civic virtue :

This is the last type in this scenario Civic virtue is about how well someone represents the
organization they work for.

Example :

Sham is a assistant manager in HCL technologies and he is been to family function somone asks
about this company he tells all the good things about this company he says our company is working
