Thesis statement:

Malaysian Higher School Certificate (STPM) and matriculation are both pre-university
programmes for the entrance to public universities in Malaysia but they do have some
differences in certain aspects.

Topic sentence 1:
Both have school fees less than RM 1,000.

Topic sentence 2:
The duration of time for both programmes are different.

Introduction:
In Malaysia, there are a few pre-university programmes can be studied by SPM
graduates for example Malaysian Higher School Certificate (STPM) and matriculation. Both
of them are pre-university programmes for the entrance to public universities in Malaysia.
However, they do have some differences in certain aspects.

Paragraph 1:
Both STPM and matriculation programme are introduced by Malaysia’s government,
which have school fees less than RM 1,000. This makes both suitable for students who are
looking for a budget option of education. However, the duration of time for both programmes
are different. STPM takes about 18 months with 3 semesters in total with only one intake in
May every year while Matriculation has two programmes, which are a one-year programme
with 2 semesters in total and a two-year programme with 4 semesters in total. Most of the
students from matriculation will graduate.
