Natural resources come from the rocks, the oceans, and the tissues of the animals and plants that live
on the earth with us. These materials are used or processed and shaped into the household product, clothes,
machinery, buildings, etc. … (§1)
The thousands of materials that we need can be classified into renewable and non-renewable resources.
The former include cotton, wood, animals and water. With proper management, such resources will be
available for man’s use for ever. For example, as long as water, food and care are made available, animal
populations such as sheep and cattle will continue to grow and reproduce. (§2)
Non-renewable resources, on the other hand, exist on this planet in fixed quantities. The majority are
minerals that are used by industry. Of course, the mineral which is most in demand is iron ore*, from which
