MEE1035-Automotive Electricals

• Open circuit. This means the circuit is broken therefore no current can
flow.
• Short circuit. This means that a fault has caused a wire to touch
another conductor and the current uses this as an easier way to
complete the circuit.
• High resistance. This means a part of the circuit has developed a high
resistance (such as a dirty connection), which will reduce the amount
of current that can flow.
• Length – the greater the length of a conductor the greater is the
resistance.
• Cross-sectional area (CSA) – the larger the cross-sectional area the
smaller the resistance.
Wring Harness
cont….
• Electrical power and control signals must be delivered to
electrical devices reliably and safely so that the electrical
system functions are not impaired or converted to hazards.
• To fulfill power distribution vehicles, use wiring harnesses.
Wring Harness
• Wires: basically two types wires are used
• Solid and Stranded
• Solid is single strand conductor.
• Stranded made up of number of small solid wires twisted
together.
Cont….
• Automotive wiring consist of primary and secondary.
• Primary – Low voltage to all electrical systems.
• Secondary – High tension cable to ignition system

• Wires are commonly grouped together in harness.

• Harness and harness connectors are help to organize the
electrical system from starting point and tracking the
circuits.
• Fuse: it is the circuit protected
• device
• Types: Cartridge, Ceramic and blade
Wiring Harness
• Prepare Wiring Harness
• Mount the fuse for
wiring Harness
• Route harnesses
• Mount harness
