Pre-K Math Unit 4: Lesson 1 9
Look at Scott!
Scott’s teacher
is helping him
trace
his hand.
“Around” is a
positional word.

Hands-On: Have students act out the positional words they

learned in the book: inside, on top, between, outside, over, in
front of, beside, under, behind, and around. For example, one
student can stand “behind” a friend. One student can crawl
“under” the table. One student can sit “on top of” the chair.

Engage Thinking: As the students explore the positional words,

check in with them by having them restate what the word is. You
can challenge the students by whispering a positional word to the
student acting it out. The remaining students will guess the word.
