1. Review previous knowledge about Ancient Athens democracy and put it to use in a Jeopardy game and vocabulary
activity

PROCEDURE
Introduction Time
- Review terms with students using their white boards (describe these terms): Boule, Council of 500, The
Assembly, Bouleterion, Pnyx Hill, Magistrate, Defendant, Plaintiff, City-state, Metic, Citizen, Slave
- Use the link in your email and play a round of Jeopardy as review with the students
20 mins
 Sort students into 4 groups, using your best judgement to have strong and weak students
together
 Give bells to use to chime in for answers
Body Time
- Draw out the structure of Athens’ government from page 75 of “Taking Part in Our Democracy” on the
board. Draw the boxes first, ask students “Who is on the lowest level of society?” See if they can describe
some facts about slaves to write underneath. Follow this procedure for each box (Women and Metics,
Citizens, Boule, and Assembly).
- Hand out page 19 of the IN for students to complete. Have them try the definitions on their own as best 25 mins
they can, they may work in pairs after.
- Students may work on their journal entries or work on another project if finished early.

Closure Time
- Have students clear off their desks in preparation for Music
