Purpose

We wanted to investigate the intermediate part of the work on exhibitions. As curator students we felt
a need to clarify the concepts of art education, both for ourselves, and to these important and current
issues were not addressed in the context of education. By interviews and discussions with people
working in the art field, we have discussed issues involving education, communication and roles
curator / educator. It is not only if work of the educational department of an institution makes, but if
the pedagogical awareness that must underpin all the work and structure of exhibition work. Three
roles work together to make art accessible to viewer. It is artist, curator and educator. Our study
would shed light on how the curator and konstpedagogens interaction can make art more accessible
to a wider audience. We want also shed light on the factors is that impede such cooperation.
• What is the relationship between curator and teacher like?
• How can the roles be strengthened and defined?
• What is the purpose of creating a communication with both the initiated
audience and a wider audience outside the art world. How to avoid the risk that art becomes populist
by too many interpretations?
• How do you achieve a greater integration of the arts in society?
• How have the methods of art education has changed, with the artists have taken an interest in
finding ways to communicate directly with audience?
Our aim has been to raise questions, highlight them and suggest appropriate solutions. This study is
based on the interviews we did in the late autumn 2004 and early 2005 with a number of people
working with art, either as teachers, curators, administrators, critics or konststudenter.1 The selection
of interviewees is not comprehensive but enough to give a general pattern. For practical purposes, is
it is primarily about Stockholm-based activities, but we have tried to get a spread of activities
