Choreography I
Professor Neels
12 March 2020
My art piece was a 3 ring abstract sculpture made out of different materials on the ring. The
outermost ring had colors of brown, green, and gold. On the inner middle ring its colors were
blue and gray and on the inner inner ring its color was gray. The rings also had different
materials glued on them, for the outermost circle it had leaves, roses, branches, on the inner
middle it had batteries, wires, and glasses, and on the inner inner circle there were keys, chess
pieces, and cards. The materials glued on the sculpture were very random which gave me the
opportunity to think abstract. I took out the word “ego” with the sculpture. I believe as humans
we hid underneath our egos to protect us or to camouflage ourselves for our inner child. The
first layer we have is our ego and each layer gets closer to our true selves, but it is not always
easy showing our true selves and wearing our heart on our sleeves. Each layer shows more
about ourselves which is why the rings represented layers of human beings and their spirits.
For my motifs, I wanted to pick movements that looked easy but required strengthening and
balance. I chose motifs that would seamlessly blend into the manipulated versions so that it
didn’t look like stop and go choreography. For my manipulations I chose the theme of hear no
evil, speak no evil, hear no evil in dedication to what is going on in our world today. It is a weird
time in our world today and whole isolating and social distancing it is important for me to remain
positive and have hope that everything will be okay. Our world will never be the same again and
the only thing that is important right now is to have all good thoughts and positive energy. For
my manipulations I was using different variations with my theme so that they did not necessarily
change the theme but all looked different when manipulating my motifs.
