Choreography II
Spring 2021
Claudine Victorin
The concept of my piece will be on the trials and tribulations of being a black girl/woman
in our society. I want to primarily focus on the mental abuse that is not seen in black girls in our
world today. I want to emphasize the importance of mental health while also focusing on realistic
ideas of how it feels to be a black woman. As a black woman, we are continuously being
overlooked and it causes many thoughts, like self doubt. There is the stereotype that black

a lot that isn’t said about a black woman’s mental health and shows to others that we must be
strong for our loved ones so that we are not seen as weak. I hope to showcase this idea in
making the movements that bring out feelings and not just motions so there will have to be a

how I will use certain movements that will enhance my piece but I know that I do not want to

the dancer or dancers. As far as casting, I am playing it by the book based on auditions and
