Days of Lavender
For my choreographic piece, my inspiration came from a figure of a exotic, colorful hand
holding a rose on a marble background. When observing my figure I was intrigued by the neon
LED colors popping out, contrasting the black and white marble backyard. I also caught the
energy of the flower. The contrast between the colors is what I wanted to apply to my phrase
and use the inspiration of juxtaposition from my figure and use fluidity, tempo, and sharpness to
create my motif. I wanted to embody the distinct colors between her blue bracelet, to the solid
purpose hand color ending with her bright red nails, the sharpness and delicacy of the transition
of the colors. The black and white marble background was the start of my motif and reminded
me of a home base. The energy of just the hand holding the flower inspired by the lightness of
The backstory that I created was about a young woman who has fallen in love with a
complete stranger. It was at first touch that they knew they were destined to be together. The
rose symbolizes their divine love for each other that they knew they had all this time. I wanted to
incorporate both sharp and light movements because in my eyes they do not normally work
together but create a beautiful story. My music in the background were binaural beats as aural
music for me to fully tap in to the figure that I wanted to embody. Also the contrast between my
movements really helped me figure out pathways within my motifs to have variety. The
inspiration of my title came from our days that we have now in our world and really emphasize
taking the time to find yourself and tap into our inner self and reflect upon ourselves about the
