8th Filipino Character

REFLECTION

All people are entitled to commit mistakes and have flaws as we are created not
to be perfect, but to be human. We are built with our own self with the strengths and
weaknesses that makes a person human, and as we continue to live day-by-day, we
continually see and identify ourselves having our strengths and weaknesses. By this,
we got to know who and what we really are. As a Filipino, we have certain values,
attributes, and behaviors that we can distinguish whether is a positive or a negative
aspect, thus, is identified as either a strength or weakness.
Stated weaknesses of the Filipino character are 1) Extreme family centeredness
where there is factionalism patronage, political dynasties, protection of every family
member, results in lack of concern for the common good, and act as a block to rational
consciousness. 2) Extreme personalism where there are people who constantly take
things personally, uncomfortable with bureaucracy with rules and often leads to graft
and corruption and lastly, 3) Lack of discipline where Filipinos are manipulated in lack of
precision and compulsiveness, poor time management and procrastination, lack of
standardization and quality control, impatient and inefficient in work systems.
Personally, being a Filipino, one weakness that I have is the lack of discipline
that I think is the most important, not being just a Filipino but a person in total. Most of
the time, I fail upon inculcating discipline to myself and it results into bad outcomes such
as, failing to manage my time, to control myself with the things I need to prioritize and
not, and with the food that I eat that my health bases. Lack of discipline makes it chaotic
as a person because it is the sense of being disorganized with your own life. However,
as a growing individual, I did not let this weakness take over my life.
As of now, I am continually conquering this weakness and not let my self-lack the
discipline I need. I am now learning on how to become a person, a better Filipino, in
which I will be helping not only myself, but many people as well.
