Topic : Should a city try to preserve its old, historic buildings or destroy them

and replace them with modern buildings? Use specific reasons and example to

support your opinion.

It is a controversial problem that whether a city should preserve its old and

historic building or destroy and replace them with moderm building. Different

people will have different opinions. In my belief, I prefer the previous idea that old

and historic building should be preserved.

There is no doubt that almost old buildings represent their history. They can

reflect the culture, the custom or the lifestyle in the country where they are located.

For example, The Great Wall of China is the typical witness history. The Wall was

erected to preserve the China state and kingdom of China’s historic northern

border. Many Chinese dynasties have played an irreplaceable role in defining the

length of The Great Wall. Through that witness, people can remember a multitude

of historical events which are offered to education for later generation.

Many old buildings are contructed in very advanced architecture

techniques and methods. Have you ever asked any questions about why the Pisa
Tower is still standing despite earthquakes, storms and wars. According to
Professor Mylonakik coming from University of Bristol, the soil that caused the
leaning instability also helped it survive these seismic events. If we demolish these
valuable buildings, we can not duplicate or copy these methods that create unique
architectures for human being. Additionally, those buildings can become the
marvellous tourist destinations that can attract hordes of tourists every year.
From what have mentioned above are certain benefits that we should
preserve the old and historic buildings. The existence of them brings a wide range
of benefits in order to develop economy and eduation.
