Las day we factored the quadratic equation given below:

2
y = x + 2x − 8

and determined that the zeros (or x-intercepts) occurred at (-4,0) and (2, 0):

y = (x + 4)(x − 2)

let y = 0, solve for x :

0 = (x + 4)(x − 2)
∴ x = −4, 2

We then found out that we could also find the zeros if our equation was in vertex form:

2
y = x + 2x − 8
Solving Quadratics – A Final Look

Determine the zeros:

y = 3x 2 + 5 x − 4 y = ax 2 + bx + c
