Euthanasia

Matthew Donnelly dying of cancer. Horribly disfigured and in pain.

Requests his brother to murder him with a pistol.

That when a person is in immense pain and suffering, they may either end their own life or allow
another person to kill them.

He is making a massive assumption that death brings peace, he has absolutely no way of knowing this.

How can a person consent when they are coerced by pain? If that pain was inflicted by another source
than cancer is it still acceptable?

If this person is willing to give up their life why does it need to end? Why can't his choice to honored by
making him into a slave or research project? He claims that his life is useless and without purpose why
then does it matter what happens to him?

Can a person consent to death? Is there anything that cannot be consented to?

If agony is all that is required to kill yourself why do we spend millions on suicide prevention and millions
on euthanasia at the same time? Surely the decision to kill yourself is either yours or not yours.

The individual is not the only entity in the universe. Our actions impact those around us. What if your
suicide would cause two close relatives to be in such a state of torment that end up in the same position
as you are? Where does the utilitarian stand now? Does selfishness or the good of the many apply?3

Where does the consent lie? What if the person is guaranteed to die and does not wish to be killed but it
is better for society for them to die now rather than later?
