Write short articles or books with good paragraphs. A good paragraph should have Main idea,
Supporting sentence, Adding details, Concluding sentence. In addition, it should focus on a central
theme, or subject. Before starting to write, it is helpful to think about the point you wish to discuss in
the paragraph.

2.       To find a main idea, you can look at the general statement in a paragraph.

Example : “I dislike the fast-food restaurant in my town. The roast beef sandwiches have a chemical
taste. Prices are high-for example, 80 cents for a small soda.”

Main idea : I dislike the fast-food restaurant in my town

3.       Supporting sentences give a reader details to understand a main idea, or evidence to show
why a claim is true or correct. You will find supporting sentences in the middle of a paragraph – after
the topic sentence, and before a concluding sentence or transition.

Examples of the supporting sentences :

Main idea : I dislike the fast-food restaurant in my town

Supporting sentence :

               ·           The roast beef sandwiches have a chemical taste

               ·           Prices are high-for example, 80 cents for a small soda

information, or knowledge.

5.       A conclusion is an important part of the paragraph, it provides closure for the reader while
reminding the reader of the contents and importance of the information discussed in paragraph. It
accomplishes this by stepping back from the specifics in order to view the bigger picture. In other
words, it is reminding the reader of the main argument.
