Scenario A

Person A is 70 years old. He is no longer able to walk more than a few meters on his own.
He lives alone and is finding basic chores like cleaning and shopping very difficult.

Young Volunteers

With time, ederly people begin to stop doing the things they did in their youth, their mobility
and strength declines. This is part of aging, for this reason children, grandchildren, or any
family member usually accompany and care for the elderly, but what if an older person lives
alone. How could you help yourself?

That the elderly live alone is a problem that concerns us all because we are human beings and we
must act with empathy, in addition, we could all be in the same situation one day. According to
Kaplan and Berkman (2021) "in the United States, almost 29% of the 46 million elderly living in the
community (non-institutionalized) live alone. Approximately 50% of the very elderly adults (≥ 85
years) in the community live alone". These figures are worrying because we don't know how their
lives go.
For all these reasons I have created a plan that consists of developing a web page where
young people aged 21 and over can register as volunteers, and in this way help elderly
people by making their purchases and placing them on their shelves and refrigerator, it
would also have the laundry service and cleaning. Another benefit for elderly people is to
receive company during the time that the volunteers are doing their work. Since as García
(2020) relates, the elderly can suffer domestic accidents due to the loss of memory and
mobility, in addition, loneliness is a trigger for depression in older adults and this "influences
the acceleration of the symptoms of other diseases” (García, 2020).

To conclude, I would like to repeat that the care of people falls to us, young people, for the
same reason, seeking solutions to improve the lives of the elderly who surround us is our
responsibility.
