The digestive system

The digestive system consists of the alimentary canal and the accesory organs.
The alimentary canal, also known as the digestive tube, is about 9 meters long and
extends from the mouth to the anus.
The roof of the mouth is formed by the hard and soft plate. The mouth cavity
proper is the cavity behind the vestibule.
The pharynx end up in the esophagus and communicates with the nose, ears, mouth
and larynx.
The esophagus is a muscular tube, about 22 to 25 cm that begin at the lower end of
the pharynx, behind the trachea, and ends in the stomach.
The stomach have two openings and two borders. The one by wich the stomach
communicates with the esophagus is called cardia, and the orifice wich
communicates with the duodenum is called pylorus.
The small intestine is divided into 3 portions: the duodenum, jejunum, and ileum.
The large intestine is wider than the small one an dis divided in the cecum with the
vermnorm appendix, colon,rectum and anal canal.
The accesory of digestion are the tongue, the teeth, the salivar glands, the pancreas
and the liver.
The tongue is the organ of the sense of taste.
In the pancreas are formed two secretions: the pancreas fluid and an internal
secretion from wich insulin was extracted.
The liver is the largest gland in the body and is conected to the under surface of the
diaphagm and the anterior wals of the abdomen by five ligaments.
