Schiphol is the main airport in the Netherlands. It is located 17.5 km from Amsterdam.

It is one of Europe's largest airports, having been in operation since 1916. Five runways provide a high
capacity of about 50 million people per year, there is also a sixth runway for flights of small aircraft. And
a seventh runway is planned to be built to cope with the large influx of passengers.

The airport has a terminal divided into three halls and piers for departing and arriving passengers.

Check-in at the airport starts two to two and a half hours in advance for international flights and one
and a half hours for domestic flights.

Free wheeled trolleys are available at the airport for passenger convenience. The luggage that can be
taken with you is limited to three categories by weight. The first - if the ticket is in economy class, the
passenger can take no more than 20 kg of luggage with him. The second category is for Business Class
passengers - luggage weight increases to 30 kg. And first class passengers are allowed the most - 40 kg.

Schiphol is more than just an international airport, it can also be classed as a tourist attraction. If you are
heading here to meet incoming passengers, try to arrive early and explore Schiphol Plaza. This
commercial centre is open seven days a week and offers excellent shopping and there are plenty of food
and alcohol outlets. There is also a huge open-air observation deck on the roof of the passenger
terminal building that offers a fantastic view of this busy airport. You can also visit the Aviodome, the
national aviation museum located near the airport building. The National Museum also has an art gallery
dedicated to the airport's masterpieces.
