Chapter 18 Activity

I really enjoyed reading this chapter because it gives good information about different

types of evidence. In this chapter Lunsford talks about the types of evidence there is in fact, I

will talk about three of these types of evidence. The first type of evidence I will talk about is the

Facts and statistics evidence. As Lunsford stated, Facts is something that can be proven to be true

and that the readers can actually prove the information is true (Lunsford,427) and Statistics

evidence is when the person proofs something using numerical data. The second evidence is the

Surveys and questionnaire. In fact, sometimes people use some surveys as evidence to support

what they are talking about. In some cases, people use a specific topic and do surveys to see what

people think. The third evidence is called Testimony. This evidence is a persuasive evidence

that is from experts that talk about a certain topic (Lunsford,430). I think that the evidence that is

most credible is the Facts and statistics evidence. One of the reasons why I think this evidence is

more credible is because it shows information or proves the people that the facts are true. I also

think this evidence is credible is because the statistics evidence shows a data of numbers which

can also be a prove. Some of the problems with reasoning occur it is unfair or uses faulty

reasoning (Lunsford ,432). One of the ways how problems with reasoning occurs is when the

person uses false dilemmas. This means that the person states that only two alternatives are

possible in a type of situation (Lunsford, 433). A counterargument is a group of reasons that are

against an argument. One of the ways how I would use a counterargument in my essay when I

am comparing two ideas or topics. This will actually help the reader differentiate each idea.
