1. Scientific and Technical translation is one of a number of fascinating areas of

studying and it has had a profound impact on society.
2. The relation between a translation and its source text does not derive from any ST
dimension but rather from the purpose or skopos of the translation in the target
culture.
3. Due to the different aims, the language used in each type of text, and consequently
the strategies needed to translate them, may vary significantly.

4. Technical translation refers to the translation of text outside the fields of science and
technology (some scholars consider technical translation to be a synonym for
specialized translation).

5. While a technical translation is designed to convey information as clearly as

effectively as possible, a scientific will discuss, analyze, synthesize information with
a view to explaining ideas, proposing new methods or evaluating methods.
