12 – STEM 4 Mr. Luna

Direction: Answer the following questions below.

1. Describe what is wave

- Waves are a type of energy conveyance that does not entail the transport of materials. To
summarize, a wave is a disturbance that moves across a medium, carrying energy from one spot
(its source) to another while avoiding the transmission of matter.

2. Do waves transfer matter? If yes, how? If no, why?

- Waves all transport energy, but they don't convey matter. Energy may be transported between
storage in a variety of ways, including waves. Energy is transferred by both mechanical and
electromagnetic waves, but not matter.

3. What is mechanical wave? longitudinal wave?

- Waves that pass across a medium are known as mechanical waves. To carry energy from one
area to another, these waves require a medium. Longitudinal and transverse mechanical waves
are also possible. Transverse waves are created when particles in the medium travel
perpendicular to the direction of the wave's motion. Longitudinal waves, on the other hand, occur
when particles in the medium flow in a direction parallel to the wave's motion.

4. What is the difference between mechanical wave and electromagnetic wave?

- Mechanical waves require a medium to propagate, but electromagnetic waves do not.
Electromagnetic waves, unlike mechanical waves, may pass across a vacuum, or empty space.
Also, whereas electromagnetic waves move at the speed of light, mechanical waves travel far
slower. Moreover, electromagnetic waves are referred to as disturbances, whereas mechanical
waves are referred to as periodic disturbances.

5. Give 5 example of mechanical wave

- Sound waves
- Water waves
- Spring waves
- Seismic waves
- Stadium waves

6. Give 5 example of electromagnetic wave

- Radio waves
- Infrared waves
- Gamma Rays
- Ultraviolet Radiations
- Microwaves
