Leif Ericson was a Norse Explorer and was the

first explorer to ever make it to the shores of

North America. He was the pioneer of the

Vinland Settlement and L'anse Aux Meadows.

Sailing for Portugal and assisting Vasco de Gama in his

explorations, Dias sailed around Africa to India, 1492

An Italian sailor, sailing for Spain. He was the

first European of this time to head West. When

1497 he reached the Carribbean, he thought he had

GIOVANNI CABOTO reached India.

In 1497 an English Expedition led by Italian

sailor Giovanni Caboto landed in

Newfoundland and claimed it for Britain using

This Italian merchant, pirate and cartographer

was sponsored by the King of France to find the

Northwest Passage. He ended up meeting a
