r/fitness Motivating, Promoting, and informing.

When starting a fitness journey, one can be bombarded by the information online, and

they might not be ale to find the motivation they need to start and maintain their fitness journey.

Reddit is an online outlet for individuals to voice their opinion, ask questions, and meet people

from around the world. The r/fitness community has over eight million members; these members

include beginners to elite level athletes. These members are there to learn, help, and motivate

each other. The published threads and posts range from questions to progress pictures the

members want to share. Through Reddit, the r/fitness community promotes, informs, and

motives people on their fitness journey.

To begin with, the r/fitness community posts a daily thread which promotes people to ask

questions, which members can answer. This welcomes, new users who have questions to begin

their fitness journey. When members ask questions, they receive a plethora of answers from

several members. These daily threads are a key factor to the popularity this Reddit community is

gaining. It’s more welcoming towards people, and in a way, it makes people comfortable,

because they are not alone. When people realize they aren’t the only ones with questions, and

that they are not the only ones confused. The Reddit community has a fun designated topic for

each day of the week. On Mondays they have “Moronic Mondays” which is a “substitute for the

daily question” (r/fitness). On Tuesdays the topic is “Training Tuesdays” this day members are

able to ask for training tips and ask about your form on certain exercises. When it is

Wednesdays, they have “Rant Wednesday” this day is “for members to blow off some steam,

and express their frustration when it comes to their fitness journey” (r/fitness). Fridays are called

“Physique Phridays” members can post progress pictures, and other members can either

congratulate or critique them. On Saturday’s “members are able to tell stories from their

experience while in the gym, this is called “gym story Saturdays” (r/fitness). On the last day of

the week, Sunday, they have a thread named “Victory Sundays” this day is for “members to

share their accomplishments in the gym” (r/fitness). These day-by-day activities to participate in

helps motivate people to start, or continue their fitness journey.

Furthermore, in the r/fitness community they have Mega Threads to help you find

information on certain aspects of being fit. The Mega Threads which rang from cool devices,

which can help you while working out, to instructional video and routines. There are nine threads

which are “Recipes, Apps Gear and Gadgets, Pro Tips, Protein, Routines, Books Blogs and

Podcasts Clothing, Instructional, and lastly Music” (r/fitness). When a member is looking for

even more information, they can look at the several articles, and links which are provided by the

community’s page. When a member is lost, or want to try something new, they have Mega

Threads, which they can find all the information they will need. These threads help all of the

members find new things which can help them out during their fitness journey. If a member just

wants to read books, or listen to podcasts which are related to fitness, they have a whole thread

dedicated for members to share their favorite reading and podcasts. Everything you need, or

information you will like to find out, within the general topic of fitness, will be located inside

one of the Mega Threads.

Moreover, the member of the r/fitness community typically have all the same goals. They

can range from trying to look and feel better about ones self, wanting to diversify their

knowledge in various topics in this area, to wanting to be stronger and faster. A comment which

was left on the daily simple question, the user “Gonna_Yeet_This” asked what it means to

“executed reps with precision”. The user then had several members of the community explain it

to him. Being a part of this community can help a member reach their goals by providing advice,

information, and motivate. When trying to find information by yourself, you will bump into

several faulty and misleading articles. As a member of r/fitness you can learn from people who

have experience in this area, they can provide information as well as research which help back

up their statements. One of the most overlooked topics, when it comes to starting and continuing

one’s fitness journey is motivation. The lack of motivation has stumped several people in their

tracks, it can be from not seeing any progress, or for someone not having energy to do anything.

When working out it takes time to notice any juristic amount of progress, so at times, it will feel

like you haven’t made any progress at all. During this time in your fitness journey, the members

of fitness can help motivate you. They can put you back on track, as they will give you the

motivation you lost. The members are extremely supportive towards one another, making the

journey to change their physics. Being a part of this community helps give you the feeling that

others are with you, by them providing feedback and sharing information with each other.

To end things off, being a part of the r/fitness community in Reddit can be a great

experience. All of the eight million members of this community are there to learn and teach each

other, promote a lifestyle which includes another, and also help motivate each other to continue

their fitness lifestyle. The r/fitness community is always welcoming new members and old, they

are there to promote, inform, and motivate each other on their fitness journey.
