Originally recorded in the 70's by The Village People, ¥.M.C.A.’s singable tune and easily recognizable chorus are sure to be a hit at your next concert You may need to rehearse this arrangement at @ slower tempo than indicated, then gradually increase the tempo unti it reaches the marked tempo. The percussion section is the key to the success of this piece and should play a precise and accurate tempo from beginning to end. The + (closed) and 0 (open) symbols in the hi-hat part indicate the open and closed effect. This effect is not mandatory, but will add a touch of realism to the sound as it was performed on the original recording. The Percussion 1 part may be divided among three players or performed by a trap-set player. The tambourine and cowbell are optional and are included for fun, if you have a few extra players, Make sure the band balances its volume level with the instruments which are playing the melody, regardless of their individual dynamic markings. Please note that the bass drum and. the tuba carry the constant quarter-to-the-beat rhythm whenever the rest of the band plays a syncopated rhythm. This should serve to remind the students where the four beats of each measure are located. All syncopations are written for large ensemble groups for teaching ease.
