ACTIVITY 1 - SELF ASSESSMENT

Create an incident or a scenario wherein scientific division of criminology is involved.

Explain how said scientific division is applied in determining the facts of the case.

Criminal cases is such widespread around the world. It can be seen in different location of a
particular place and it happened anytime. Sometimes we are possibly associated as a victim or
maybe affiliated as a criminal suspect.

Criminal cases are required to examine by the criminalistics (Forensic Experts) to

determine the root of the case/s. Investigating of a crime scene is also determining the
facts of the case.

In investigating the crime scene, the scientific division of criminology should be used to
obtain the substantial fact of the case. These are the Chemistry, Physics and Biology
that will be used in examining the crime scene.

Below can be seen the example of scenario or incidents and how the said scientific
division is applied in determining the facts of the case.

Scenario:

Daryl and his friends namely John and Dave was enjoying the party in the bar at 11:00
sharp in the evening. Then he decided to call Kyline which was his girlfriend to come
with them. While that moment, John and Dave contacting their other friend which is
Kenneth the ex-boyfriend of Kyline if he is going to the party.

After twenty minutes of contacting his girlfriend through messages and calls, his
girlfriend response at 11:21 pm and she said that "She is going to prepare for hir dress",
after a while Daryl reply's again to Kyline around 11:22 pm, but suddenly it turns out that
his girlfriend was just ignoring his responses. After a while, he planned to visit his
girlfriend to their apartment to check if what was really going on. His being suspicious
because his expecting that Kyline will always reply to him. By that time his heart was
pounding with nervousness while he was driving towards the location to Kyline's
apartment. He was arrived at 11:50 pm. Afterwards, he was shocked by the unexpected
horrible scene. His girlfriend was dead and tightly tied-up his neck with a rope from the
ceiling. His body was trembling and he was crying silently. He picked up his phone and call a
police to help him.
The policemen swiftly arrived to the crime scene and they investigate the case. They come up
with the conclusion that the crime was a murder and rape. The evidences that they gathered
are rope, footprints, fingerprints, semen, blood stains and handkerchief.

A. Chemistry

This division help to support the substantial fact that the case is murder and rape because of
the gathered evidences of the investigators such as fingerprints, footprints, semen,
handkerchief. They also investigate that the blood stains are in the handkerchief where they
found out that the blood is from the suspect because the victim resisted.

B. Physics

The investigator examined the timeframe of the crime. This division is also used to support the
facts of the case. As what the criminal case mentioned that the murderer kill the victim at the
speed of 29 minutes, because around 11:22 pm the girl doesn't response to the reply of his
boyfriend. And his boyfriend arrived at 11:50 pm. Meaning the crimes happened at early time
at around 11 o'clock in the evening.

C. Biology

This division also helped to support the facts of the case on how the crimes happened and
what is the reason or the temptation why the person or suspect done by killing of other person
or a victim. Based on the investigation of the forensic expert, jealousy is the cause of killing of a
victim. Forensic expert found out that the friend of Kyline's boyfriend which is Kenneth was ex-
boyfriend of Kyline or the victim of the crime and it is according the statement of Daryl. So, the
cause of killing is jealousy.
