Parenting styles are believed to play an important role in a child's life.
The parenting style of their parents determines the child's attitude in every aspect of their development. Knowledge for parenting style has great importance for the parents because they would be able to know on how to discipline their children in the right way. The child's development is supported by their parents’ interaction with their child (Breiner, Ford, & Gadsden, 2016). Usually parenting style matters in raising a child, it is a way to develop a child's attitude. (MOve 1 step 1) In the Philippines, disciplining children are believed to be the accurate way to mold them to become successful in the future, mostly concerning their education. It is commonly advised to guide the children in every step of their development. The parent-child relationship is known to have a huge effect on most of the aspect of the child's growth. The child's perspective towards life is dependent on how the child's parents approach them (Tremblay, Boivin, & Peters, 2018). (move 1 step 2) According to Morin (2018), raising a child is not as easy as it looks because all the parents’ actions can affect a huge part of the child’s growth. The parenting style of the parents can affect every child’s development. Moẻ, Pazzaglia, Tressoldi, & Toso (2009) claimed that attitude is very important for everyone because, without the right attitude, there is a low percentage of achievement that can be done. Using Authoritarian Parenting style, the expected aspects of the child are obedient and status-oriented for their parents are strict when it comes to errors. In the Authoritative parenting style, the child develops independence, self-control, and self-regulation because the parents are very responsive when it comes to their child's needs. And in Permissive Parenting, the child tends to struggle with self-regulation and self- control because their parents make a little or no attempt to control and discipline their child. And lastly, Uninvolved Parenting style where the parents do not involve themselves with their child that results to having a delinquent child, emotionally withdrawn that these children will feel fear or anxiety due to lack of family support and they tend to be dependent to others (Cherry, 2018). Some studies were conducted on the relationship between parenting styles and students’ attitude towards study. In some case, the study of Dornsbusch, Ritter, Leiderman, Roberts, and Fraleigh (2012) entitled “The Relation of Parenting Style to Adolescent School Performance” provided evidence that Baumbrind’s typology of parenting styles can successfully be applied to adolescents and related to their academic performance in school. The study revealed that the typology of parenting styles affects the development of the child. Additionally, the study entitled “The Relation of Parenting Style to School Performance in Middle School Students” presented by Leykam (1999) aimed to determine the relationship between the three parenting styles and the academic achievement of the middle school students. The study concluded that there was no significant relationship between authoritative parenting and academic achievement. The result is the same with the authoritarian parenting and permissive parenting between the academic achievements of the middle school students. (move 1 step 3) The researchers have found many studies that are related to parenting style and students’ attitude towards study. Many studies are found in other countries and the Philippines. However, there is no study conducted at Central Bukidnon Institute regarding the parenting style of the parents enrolling their children at the school. (move 2, step 1b) In this paper, it identifies the relationship between parenting style and students' attitude towards study. It demonstrates the number of degrees of each level of parenting styles regarding: authoritative, authoritarian, and permissive parenting. (move 3 step 1b)
