The table showed the mean band scores in IELTS Academic Paper by students
from different language groups (Hindi, Malaylaysian, Russian and Spanish) in
2003
Regarding to Hindi’s figures, they made up the highest proprotion of totality in
listening, writing and speaking, as opposed to the other languages, at 6.78, 6.62
and 6.86 respectively. In Spanish language, it scored 6.27 in listening, 6.42 in
reading, 6.08 in writing and 6.64 in speaking. Besides, Spanish’s reading score
was higher than Hindi’s mean one recorded at only 6.38.
Turning to the Russian and Malayalam, the reading avarage band score showed
the comparable trend, at each 6.13. In Russian language, the other sectors
represented for higher proportions as opposed to the ones of Malayalam,
excepted for the writing scores. In particular, the Russian’s listening and writing
scores accounted for 6.35 and 6.69 band , whereas the opposing ones were only
6.31 and 6.52. In writing score, Malayalam language, at 6.49, was higher than
Russian one at only 6.11.
Overall, The Hindi had the highest overall scores whereas the lowest score was
achieved by Russian.
